Hi! My name is Katie Dorsey and I am the Professional School Counselor at Beulah Elementary School. Beulah has been my "second home" for 9 years and I truly love my students, school, and staff! I have a Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education, Master's degree in School Counseling, and a Specialist degree in Instructional Technology.

As a Professional School Counselor I believe:
•All children are unique and should be treated with respect and dignity.
•Every student can succeed.
•Learning is a lifelong process.
•Fostering a positive self-image is the collaborative effort of the school, home, and community which leads to responsible and productive citizenship.
•The diverse needs of all students must be addressed through the school counseling program.
•Every student needs appropriate personal and social skills to achieve optimum benefits from the educational program.
•A comprehensive, developmental school counseling program is not a support service but an integral part of the total education program.
•A developmentally appropriate school counseling program provides important benefits to individual students by addressing their intellectual, emotional, social, physical, and psychological needs.

Beulah Elementary School Counseling Mission Statement
The mission of Beulah Elementary School is to provide all students with a positive learning environment, professional and ethical values, and resources to support a growing and diverse population. The professional school counselor supports all students through academic, personal, social, and career related needs. The mission at Beulah is to encourage students to recognize their own potential and to develop that potential as students grow and expand their skills and knowledge. Beulah Elementary is a partnership of community, parent, teacher, and administrative resources who strive to positively support and give confidence to all students. The school counselor commits to becoming a lifelong learner in which knowledge and self-awareness hold the keys to understanding our students on an individual level. Beulah Elementary School prides itself on maintaining a safe school environment where all students are given equal opportunity to succeed and develop the skills required to becoming a healthy and successful citizen.
As an elementary school counselor, I will incorporate individual and group counseling to help support and encourage my students. I will strive to help all students with academic, personal/social, and career related problems in addition to implementing early intervention programs. I feel early intervention is a vital component to incorporate as an elementary school counselor and by effectively reaching students early; I may have a better opportunity to prevent further social or developmental problems. Elementary students are exposed to a variety of stressful factors including peer pressure, academic anxiety, bullying, diversity issues, family conflicts, and social adjustment issues. Through individual and group counseling, I will effectively work with my students to not only resolve these issues but to provide empathy and unconditional support for future problems that may arise.
